Thame Walking Tours

Midsomer guided walking tours of Thame are held –

  • Each Wednesday between April and October, beginning at 2pm
  • Each Saturday between mid-June and mid-September, beginning at 2pm

The tour starts from outside Thame’s Town Hall, right in the centre of  town and is hosted by one of seven volunteer guides, all knowledgeable about the locations and the episodes in which they were used.

The tour is filled with information about the show, its beginnings in 1997, the many actors who have appeared in it, the bizarre methods of murder that have been used and many anecdotes recounting highlights from the series. This year is the 27th anniversary of the launch of Midsomer Murders, so why not celebrate by doing the tour?

  • Tickets for the tour cost £10 and can be purchased online here or in person from Thame Town Hall Information Centre or from Thame Museum, 79 High Street, OX9 3AE, itself one of the filming locations and where the tour ends.
  • Two thirds of the income from the tours is donated to local charities at the end of each season.
  • Can’t make one of our regular tours?  No problem.  Check out our Bespoke tours.  Click here

“We loved the tour. It was really interesting, how it mixes real history with facts about the show, and what a beautiful town! Alan was a wonderful guide – very warm and considerate, and of course brimming with knowledge. The photo opportunity outside Causton Town Hall at the end was a particularly lovely touch. I will definitely be recommending it.”

“I can see why the tour is so popular – it was a delight!  It was very informative, not only regarding Midsomer Murders, but also with more general historical information. We all had a very enjoyable time.  I can confidently recommend the Midsomer tour for anyone with an interest in Midsomer and in Thame’s historical background.”

“Thanks so much for the tour today. Over the coming days I shall be leaving a review or two online. I was with the group from Romania and I have forgotten the name of the guide, possibly Alan? The tour was great, far better than expected, packed full of wonderful details from people who know. The museum was a lovely bonus too. One of the group from Romania mentioned to me near the end that they had come to the UK especially for the Midsomer experience and he told me also how terrifically impressed he was too. A credit to your town. I’m hoping ITV continue commissioning these series, bringing more visitors to your lovely town. Thank you so very much, Michael.”
